Charlie Methven had this to say about the annual event at Guards Polo Club:

One of the world’s most ancient sports (it dates back to 650BC), polo is the ne plus autre of posh pastimes. The jewel in the sport’s crown is The Cartier International, held on Smith’s Lawn at the Guards Club in Windsor Great Park. The Queen regularly makes the short journey from Windsor to the Royal Box to watch a few chukkas.

Cartier International Polo is the biggest polo day in the world! Royalty, celebrities and leading players combined with a 25,000 strong crowd make this event an excellent showpiece of horsemanship. Follow the highs and lows of the players as they gallop across the pitch, ride each other off or turn on a sixpence in pursuit of that all important goal. The evening entertainment is provided by Chinawhites – club nights to the future king since 2001!!

11am The Prince of Wales Team v Hurlingham for The Golden Jubilee Trophy

Followed by The Presentation Ceremony

1pm Lunch commences for all pre-booked hospitality guests

3.15pm England v Australia for The Coronation Cup

Followed by The Presentation Ceremony including:
The Cartier award for the day’s most outstanding player
The Cadenza trophy for the owner of the best playing pony

6pm Pre-booked evening entertainment begins

Call Coworth Park on 01344875155 for permission to land. Coworth Park is 5 minutes away from the event by car.

Food

Spectators are welcome to bring their own food and drink to the event. The majority of spectators using this option prefer to picnic close to their car. We like this deluxe picnic hamper coupled with an extensive deli hamper that can be delivered straight to your home or hotel.

The four-hour thriller had Britons cramming around their television sets for news of the great comeback by the hungry Scot. Gasquet’s protestations of poor light were met with boos from the baying crowd. Thousands waited patiently for Murray to claw back his victory from the ashes of the first sets and the referee had to ask for quiet on more than one occasion. Murray now faces Nadal in the quarter-final.
